How a Kenmore washer reports a fault
Kenmore does not build its own washers — Sears (now Transform SR Brands LLC) contracted real manufacturers to build and rebadge them. The fault code your washer displays depends entirely on which OEM built it, identified by the first three digits of the model number: 110/665-series is Whirlpool-built, 796-series is LG-built.
Whirlpool-built (110/665-series)
Sud (also shown as Sd or 5d) means a suds lock from excess detergent; the washer runs a suds-reduction rinse. F8E1 is a long fill — the washer is not detecting the correct incoming water amount, and the door may lock during an extended drain cycle. dU is a door-lock/latch fault, and LF/LO flags a long fill on some control platforms.
LG-built (796-series)
OE is a drain error — the washer is draining slowly or not at all. IE is a water-inlet error from low supply pressure. UE means the load is unbalanced. dE means the door failed to lock, usually resolved with a reset.
What to check, and when to call
Use HE detergent and reduce the amount for a recurring Sud/Sd code. Check both supply taps are fully open for F8E1 or IE, and redistribute the load for UE. A recurring dU, dE, or a code that returns after a reset needs an experienced, independent technician with the correct genuine OEM part matched to your washer’s actual builder.
